About the Conference

International Conference on Educational Science (ICONSEIR) is an annual conference organized by Faculty of Education, Universitas Negeri Medan. The 1st, 2nd, and 3rd edition were successfully with direct talk format held in Medan, North Sumatera. Due to the covid situation in the last 3 years, the 4th conference has changed into a virtual format and so is this year. Since its first edition, ICONSEIR has been a successful event that brings on researchers and practitioners to share their cutting-edge development in the field of education.

Prof. Dr. Syawal Gultom, M.Pd.Universitas Negeri Medan Indonesia

Prof. Dr. Syawal Gultom, M.Pd is the current chairman of the UNIMED senate. He was the Rector of Universitas Negeri Medan from 2007 to 2011 and from 2015 to 2019. He is a professor of mathematics education at Universitas Negeri Medan. Before returning to the field of education, he was the 1st Echelon official to the Ministry of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia, serving as Head of the Education and Culture Human Resources Development Agency and Education Quality Assurance (BPSDMPK-PMP) in Jakarta. During his tenure as Head of the SDMPK and PMP Agency, he was also the initiator and trainer of the 2013 Curriculum, which was implemented in Indonesia.

Prof Peter HickEdge Hill University, United Kingdom

Peter is a Professor of Inclusive Education in the Faculty of Education at Edge Hill University since January 2022. Within the Faculty of Education, he leads the Inclusion, Diversity and Identities Research Network and Professorial lead for Research Impact. Previously, he worked as Principal Lecturer in Inclusive Education at Manchester Metropolitan University; Lecturer in Inclusive Education at the University of Birmingham; and Lecturer in Learning Disabilities and Research Fellow at the University of Manchester. His professional background is as an Educational Psychologist, although his scope of practice is currently focused on research and teaching. His research interests are in the field of social justice in education and society; developing inclusive practices in educational settings; teachers professional learning for inclusive schooling; inclusive pedagogies with historically minoritised learners; disability as a lens on the cultural construction of difference; sociocultural, critical and decolonial theorizing for intersectional study of race and disability; inclusive practices with digital technologies.

Dr. Rhett LobanMacquarie University, Australia

Dr Rhett Loban is a Lecturer at Macquarie University. His research interests include culture, game-based learning and virtual reality. Rhett received his PhD in 2020 from the University of New South Wales (UNSW) in Sydney. His PhD thesis examined how players might learn about history through engaging with Grand Strategy video games, in particular through the practice of modding. Rhett also led the development of Torres Strait Virtual Reality, a game used at UNSW to teach about Torres Strait Islander culture and knowledge. He was awarded the 2018 CSIRO Indigenous Professional Career Achievement Award for his work on Torres Strait Virtual Reality and vision for different ways of learning.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Zuwati HasimUniversiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur

Zuwati Hasim is Associate Professor at the Faculty of Education, Universiti Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. Her research interests include language assessment, action research, pedagogy, teacher education, reflective practice, higher education and school-based assessment. She completed her PhD in Applied Linguistics from the University of Waikato, New Zealand, with a research focus on understanding ESL writing and its assessment practice through the sociocultural lens. She was formerly a Deputy Director at the Centre for Civilisational Dialogue, University Malaya (UMCCD). Upon completion of her tenure at the UMCCD, she was then appointed as the Deputy Director at the International Institute of Public Policy & Management (INPUMA), Universiti Malaya where she managed the Master of Public Policy (MPP) programme, organized evaluation and training programmes, and developed collaborations with local and international agencies. Among the programmes managed were the Malaysia Technical Cooperation Programme (MTCP) under the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, MPP Outbound Programme, and Education Policy Lab.
